    The Cookoff Chefs

After a month break, we’re back! This past July, Ted and Amy Supper Club was sponsoring The 5th Annual Great Hot Dog Cookoff. We raised over $5,000 for City Harvest, and a whole bunch of Supper Club friends were there competing, volunteering and eating. Supper Club guest, Karol Lu, walked away with the big prize and the title of Best in Show. Congrats Karol! And thank you all for your support!

You can check out the site for more details on what went down. And also sign up for the mailing list so you don’t miss out on next year’s event.

In a guest post at the blog Civil Eats, one of my former co-workers, Timi Gerson of American Jewish World Service (AJWS,) defends the role of local food in food aid policy:

Wherever one stands on the issue of biotech in agriculture – and people of good will can disagree – the notion that all biotech practices are inherently “good” or “modern” whereas all non-biotech practices, such as indigenous seed banking and hybrid cultivation, composting and drip irrigation, are inherently “bad” or “backward” comes across as more ideological than scientific.

You can tell Congress to support common sense food aid through this petition, which is a part of AJWS’ From the Ground Up campaign to empower farmers in the developing world to feed their own families and communities.
